Make a glowing Turkish mosaic lamp

We don't have a permanent studio in these cities. Instead we bring everything, from the hand-cut glass and lamp frames to the tools and an instructor, to a hotel meeting room for one day, usually with a morning and an afternoon session.

It is the same workshop we run in our permanent studios. The difference is timing: each city gets a day roughly once a month, so when a date fills, the next one is usually a month or more away.

Each date above shows the hotel it is at, and your confirmation email has the full address and a link to detailed directions. The workshop runs in one of the hotel's meeting rooms. If you can't see us, the front desk will point you the right way.

No. Most guests have never made a mosaic before. An instructor works with the table through every step — planning your pattern, gluing the hand-cut Turkish glass, filling the gaps with beads — and stays with you for the whole session.

Sessions run 2.5 hours and your lamp leaves with you at the end of it, along with a take-home grouting kit. The glue needs 12–24 hours undisturbed, so you grout the lamp at home the next day — about 20 minutes — then sit the globe in its frame and fit the LED bulb.

Eight: the candle holder, table lamp, Aladdin lamp, swan lamp, portable lamp, cylinder wall sconce, mini moon lamp and moon lamp. Each one's price is shown above and in the booking calendar, and everyone in your group can choose a different one.

Every lamp is built on the same glass globe. What changes is the metal frame — taller or more elaborate as the price goes up. The candle holder uses a smaller glass base and takes a tealight rather than a bulb, and the portable lamp has a built-in, USB-rechargeable LED.

Yes. Everyone at the table can choose a different project and work on them side by side in the same session. Book one seat per maker and pick each person’s project as you go through the booking calendar.

Yes. Add an Accompany Person seat when you book. That person sits with a maker and works on the same piece instead of making their own — it suits a parent with a younger child, or anyone who would rather share one lamp.

Guests need to be at least 8 years old. The workshop involves hand-cut glass and adhesive, so the minimum age keeps the session safe and the experience worthwhile for everyone at the table.

Let the lamp dry undisturbed for a day first. Then spread the ready-mixed grout from your kit straight over the glass, working it into every gap between the pieces and beads. Wipe the surface back with a wet sponge straight away, before the grout dries on top of the glass. Leave it another day to cure and it is ready to assemble.

Step-by-step grouting instructions

Hand-cut stained glass — coloured right through rather than painted, so it never fades — together with glass beads. The lamp frames are zamak, an alloy of zinc, aluminium, copper and magnesium, with a coating that stops it rusting. Lamps come wired with a US plug and an LED bulb.

You can move up, not down — within what we have with us. A pop-up packs for the projects that are booked, so an upgrade on the day depends on the frames we brought. If you already know you want a bigger lamp, book it now.

We cannot swap you to a cheaper project once it is booked. So if you are torn between two, book the lower-priced one and ask your instructor about upgrading when you arrive.

• Cancel at least 7 days before the session starts and the booking is refunded in full.
• Cancel 5 to 7 days before and up to 50% of the booking fee may be kept as an administrative fee.
• Less than 5 days before the session, the booking is non-refundable.

• Reschedule at least 48 hours before the session starts at no charge.
• Within 48 hours of the session there is a $25 per person handling fee.
• One reschedule per booking. If you do not have a new date yet, the booking code we issue is valid for three months.

Because a pop-up runs one day at a time, rescheduling usually means moving to the other session that day or to that city's next pop-up date.

Yes. A private session gives your group the table and an instructor to yourselves — birthdays, team events, showers and family gatherings. A minimum spend applies and it varies by location, so send us the details and we will come back with a quote.
