How a jack-o’-lantern lamp comes together
Two hours, start to switch-on. This is a pumpkin globe, but every design on this page follows the same four moves.
Plan the face
Lay your eyes, nose and grin out on the pattern sheet first. Sharp triangles look sinister; rounded shapes look friendly. Your call.
Place the black glass
Glue the face pieces onto the clear globe. This is the only part that needs precision, and your instructor is right there for it.
Fill with beads
Pack orange seed beads around the face until no glass shows. It goes faster than it looks — and it’s weirdly calming.
Flip the switch
Mount the globe, plug it in, and see it glow before you leave. At home, let the glue dry for 12 hours, then apply the grout we give you to finish it.

Questions from the crypt
I can’t draw a straight line. Can I really make one of these?
Yes. Every design on this page is built from small glass pieces and beads, not brush strokes. Instructors guide every step, and the “wobbly” ones usually look the most haunted anyway.
Do I have to pick a Halloween design?
No — it’s the same mosaic lamp workshop as always. The Halloween patterns are there if you want them. Bring your own idea, or just choose a colour story from the palette above.
Which lamp should I book for a Halloween design?
Faces read best on a globe: table lamp, moon lamp or swan lamp. The ghost, black cat and pumpkin light boxes are flat panels — quickest to build and easy to hang in a window. Lamp forms vary by studio, so check the options on your studio’s page.
How long does it take, and when do I get my lamp?
Plan for about two hours. Your lamp goes home with you the same day. Let the glue dry for 12 hours, then apply the grout we provide — that’s the finishing touch, and it takes about 20 minutes.
Can kids do this?
We ask for a minimum age of 8 so everyone gets a safe, engaging session. Light boxes are a great first project for younger makers.
Will it still be spooky in November?
Unplug it, box it, and bring it out next October. Glass doesn’t fade. That’s the whole point.
